The truth, MIss Sforza. Cain wanted to know the truth about his future. It would seem everyone was keeping him in the dark.

You thought it best to fill him in because you know him so well. [Yes, that's thinly veiled sarcasm.]

Actually, I did it because he asked me to. [Though, he does like to think that he knows him quite well, thank you very much.]

All of this started because Cain asked for information? [She knows there's more to it. Spill.]

It did, indeed. He wanted to know the rest of his story, what's to become of him. Things he had every right to know. [A pity it had all gone so dreadfully wrong.]

You must know Abel would never trust you to tell him a story whether he ought to know it or not.

Of course not. That's why I didn't ask for his permission. [Not that he was the sort to ask anyone's permission for anything, really.]

You must know of their connection. Asking for his permission is exactly what you should have done as it is plain to see you hold no shame over what you've done. There was nothing to stop you from discussing the matter with him.

[He laughs at that.] Nothing but Abel himself. Tell me, do you honestly believe that he would be willing to peaceably discuss anything with me? Every time I have encountered him here he has threatened, if not inflicted, bodily harm. The lines of communication are not exactly open.

We both know you deserve that much from him. It's not as though you lack the means to contact him. [That cold indifference is now ice, steel. The longer she speaks with him, the more the Magician gets under her skin.]

But, I am wasting my time lecturing a man like you on decency. Unless you have anything else to add, I'm done.

Let he who is without sin cast the first stone, Cardinal. None of us is perfect. [Considering the things he's done, what right does Abel have to judge him? Ah, but she doesn't know the whole story either, does she? He would dearly like to tell her. And someday he will. But now, it seems, is not the time.]

I do hope we can chat again soon. It's been quite lovely.
